Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Rescue Mission do?
The Rescue Mission provides healthy meals, shelter, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, education and job training skills and other programs designed to help people in challenging circumstances make permanent life changes. We are motivated by our Christian Faith and belief in the human spirit.
Where are you located?
Headquartered in Tacoma, the Rescue Mission has six locations that serve people throughout Pierce County.
Who do you serve?
The Rescue Mission offers help and hope to men, women and children. We work with people at all stages of homelessness, addiction or other life challenges to offer needed services that lead to permanent change and self sufficiency. As the face of homelessness is changing, we now provide more services than ever before to children, who typically occupy many of our shelter beds on any given night.
Are your services only offered to Christians?
The Rescue Mission does not discriminate or withhold services from anyone based on any distinctive. Faith services are voluntary and there is no faith requirement to enter or graduate from any program or receive any service. Our faith motivates us to love others and serve them in the name of Jesus.
How are you funded? Are you part of a government or church organization?
We are a non-profit, 501C3 organization. Our operating funds come from individuals and organizations, church groups, foundations and government grants and other donations. In fact, we also receive generous in-kind support of food, clothing and other household items.
